MOTOGRATER Dropped By NO NAME RECORDS?
September 22, 2002Santa Barbara, California-based quintet MOTOGRATER are rumored to have parted ways with No Name/Elektra Records before a single note has been released through the label. An official confirmation on the matter has yet to be made.
MOTOGRATER recently entered a Vancouver, British Columbia studio with producer GGGarth Richardson (MUDVAYNE, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, SPINESHANK) to begin work on their debut effort for No Name, previously scheduled for a fall release. It is presently unclear how much of the album had been recorded prior to the alleged split or if those recordings will be completed and released through another company once a new record deal has been secured.
As previously reported, the five-piece had originally signed with COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Fafara's Sever imprint through Beyond/BMG Records, but had eventually become free agents, thereby allowing them to link up with No Name head honcho Steve Richards at his new company.
Back in July of last year, Fafara had the following to say about the group: "They're a five-piece act, they don't have a bass or a guitar. They play this thing called a motograter, it's an instrument that Bruce Butler of MOTOGRATER designed. It's a percussive instrument that replaces the bass and guitar in one. They're crazy, they all have shaved heads, and they paint themselves with a combo of grease, white & black paint, and dirt. It's the most raw thing I've ever seen. Wait till you see these guys, you're gonna sh.t!"
